It's no secret our annual retreat for LGBTQ Inquirers and Candidates prepares future pastors for their ministries in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), but yesterday we were so proud to see long-time attendee Inquirer Alex McNeill testify about his marriage at the rally on the steps of the Supreme Court. Our retreat shapes lives, the church, and the nation in small and large ways we would have never guessed.
Give today to help us send Alex and others to this summer's retreat. As we saw yesterday, you'll never be able to predict just how far your donation will reach.
While Alex was representing people of faith in the struggle for equality in DC, Mieke and I joined new and old friends at the Interfaith Rally to Repeal DOMA at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah in the West Village, NYC.
With people of many faiths we prayed, sang, and heard the stories of those who have been ignored and hurt by the federal government's refusal to recognize committed same-gender relationships.
It was an inspiring evening that only makes us more excited for the marriage equality we know is coming to the PC(USA) and the nation.
We hope that you'll be joining us for the Covenant Network of Presbyterians New York City Regional Conference: "What Now? Marriage Equality for Presbyterians and Everyone Else." On May 11 we are helping to bring attorneys Doug Nave and David Boies, the latter of whom will be fresh off his time arguing for justice before the highest court in the land.
We hope you're as encouraged as we are by all the energy moving toward justice right now. If you have anything you'd like us to share, please email me.
Peace, John Russell Stanger Organizer of Mission & Advocacy
