Pew to Pulpit

The world of faith needs more LGBTQ ordained leaders and engaged lay people.  Parity has for many years supported queer leaders through its Emerging Pastors program, providing retreats, mentoring and support.  This program is being expanded to provide youth from around the United States a supported path to leadership or engaged membership within their faith.

Parity will provide online, free tool kits (in development) with religion and denomination specific multimedia educational offerings to empower youth to become more involved in their faith community, along with regional workshops, seminary/academic opportunities, youth camps and retreats. WHY?

Too often, queer people are excluded from leadership and educational roles in faith communities, even if they are welcome to attend worship.  Youth often don’t know queer clergy members and may not see ministry or active involvement in a faith community as a path for their lives. Adults and elders may wish to become more active and assume leadership roles, but do not have the social support and practical means to achieve their goals.

WANT TO HELP?

Parity needs mentors, speakers and preachers to share their stories and host films and facilitators to lead spirituality and leadership groups in LGBT centers, GSAs and faith spaces.
